Fireside with Intern Abbey Morris
July 30, 2025 - HighGround was pleased to have four interns with us this summer. We recently sat down, fireside, to learn more about our Client Solutions Intern Abbey Morris, and her experience working at HighGround.
Where are you from? What school do you attend, and what are you studying?
I am from Rowlett, Texas. I graduated from Tarleton State University in December with a BBA in Marketing. I am currently attending the University of Texas at Dallas for an MS in Digital Advertising and Marketing.
What brought you to HighGround?
I met [Director of Human Resources] Carol Nichols at a job fair at Tarleton. She was very nice and welcoming, and I asked if there were any marketing internships or opportunities. When I interviewed with the Client Solutions team, they all were very nice and inquisitive about what I wanted to learn with this opportunity. That made me excited to join the team.
What did you do in your time here?
I worked mostly with the marketing team, working on graphics for different events and more. I worked with [AVP for Marketing and Communications] Lacy Cagle and learned about her role. She gave me insights into projects I worked on. Right now, I’m working on my final project for the internship, a reel showcasing the interns that will go out on social media.
I also had the opportunity to sit in on training courses with each department, which gave me a very well-rounded view of HighGround.
What have you learned in your time here? What’s been your biggest takeaway?
I have learned what goes on behind-the-scenes for advertisements and social media for a corporate account. I was able to use Adobe software and other applications that were new to me which are very vital for my career in digital marketing.
My biggest takeaway would be to build meaningful relationships in the time you have and learn as much as you can.
What is a favorite moment from your time at HighGround?
My favorite moments were getting to go to lunch with the executive leadership one-on-one and connect with them and why they chose HighGround. I learned a lot from them, their experiences and how they worked to get to the position they are in now.
When I first got to HighGround I was a little nervous, but everyone came by on their own time to come say hi and introduce themselves. That really showed me the culture at HighGround and why this place is a great place to work.
We focus on strengths at HighGround and utilize the CliftonStrengths assessment. What are your top five strengths?
Mine are Woo, Arranger, Developer, Restorative and Includer.
I liked doing this strengths assessment. I also did it a year ago, so seeing my results change a little bit was interesting. I am not necessarily surprised by what I got, I feel like those fit me well. When I sat down with Carol to go over my results we talked about how I can use these in my future career to navigate how I work with others and even how to use them in job interviews.
Which of the HighGround core values resonates most deeply with you and why?
I would say Integrity and Servant-Hearted. Those values are important in building relationships in and out of the workplace. Treating others with respect and honesty and being willing to serve one another are the most important things.
How do you like to spend your time? What are your hobbies or passions?
I love to read books, spend time with friends and pick up new skills - right now I am learning Spanish.
What does the future hold for you?
I hope to finish my master’s and learn more about the digital side of marketing and advertising. I plan to get a full-time job in the digital or design fields while getting my degree.
